1986…

All of my “firsts” in my life were accompanied by Meatloaf, Air Supply, Eagles, Whitney Houston and of course Bryan Adams!

It’s been such a rough work day today… and so what did I do? I put my earbuds in my ears, and pretend it was an old school Sony Walkman (y’all youngsters don’t know about that 😆) and I turned the volume up as I jammed to The Summer of 69!

Then when I go home I began to think about those carefree days of my youth. How young and free it was to just scoot out in the lake with my besties and jump off the trestle into the sun warmed lake.

I was 15…. and in the blink of an eye, I was 50….

My point being this younger generation is in such a hurry to grow up that as parents we do our best to not hold them back, but today I find myself hearing my mom saying “Debs your childhood will be over in the blink of an eye, don’t be in such a rush to grow up”..

Thinking about 1986, I would pay anything just to spend one day in that year… Every memory created, every boy who broke my heart, every best friend I had and every candle I’d blow out and wish I made was preparing me for the road ahead…

Don’t rush it, your future you needs this moment in your life and you will indeed understand it when your older…
