Experience Is Mandatory

I am not geographically blessed so the other day I wanted to see exactly where my son will be spending the next 2 years.
I knew that the next exit was Canada but had no idea that he was past Sault St Marie.

I think it’s SUPER important that every young person have “wilderness”experience as I like to call it.

We as parents oftentimes have this innate desire to protect our children even after they are fully grown.

We want to preserve their childhood for selfish reasons and in doing so, harm them instead of encourage them to see the world, learn how to be a productive member of society or even formulate a solution entirely on their own!

I see it everyday in every culture, the mom babies her daughter or son and enables their addictions or imperfections. Whether it be for fear of an empty nest or fear her children will forget about them.

I love my children immensely and I knew one day the day would come that they would fly the nest and into their own journey of life and discovery. I had 3 major rules I laid out from the beginning (I won’t share what those were) and I’m so proud to say all 3 of my children did NOT break those 3 golden rules.

When I stop and ponder on the last 31 years of raising my children, I am in awe at how quickly time has passed and it leaves me with tears in my heart and joy in my soul that they had a good foundation laid for them knowing right from wrong so they’ll be able to pass it on to their children one day.

One never knows what road or path we will eventually end up on, so it’s best to always prepare for the incredible #adventure that awaits you. Not being afraid but confident in your abilities and humbled enough to make mistakes.
